THE DISTRICT

The 40th district covers small cities like Baraboo and Portage and also includes several rural communities west of Prairie du Sac. It is a likely Democratic district.

THE NUTSHELL

Karen DeSanto, of Baraboo, faces Republican Gerald Helmer of Prairie du Sac, following the retirement of Rep. Dave Considine, D-Baraboo. DeSanto, the former CEO of the Boys & Girls Clubs of West Central Wisconsin, is favored due to the partisan slant of the district.

PRIMARY RESULTS

DeSanto defeated two opponents in the Democratic primary with about two-thirds of the Aug. 13 primary vote and will face Helmer who was uncontested.
