THE DISTRICT

The 82nd Assembly District covers much of the western and central portions of Waukesha. It is a likely Republican seat.

THE NUTSHELL

Incumbent Rep. Scott Allen, R-Waukesha, has represented the 97th Assembly District for nearly a decade. Now, after being redistricted into the 82nd Assembly District, he is running for reelection on a conservative platform supporting school voucher expansion and tax cuts while opposing abortion. During his tenure, Allen has proposed anti-trans legislation, introduced plans to prosecute school teachers and librarians for “obscene” books and has supported right-wing calls to impeach state elections administrator Meagan Wolfe. He faces Kevin Reilly of Waukesha, a psychiatric technician and the brother of Waukesha Mayor Shawn Reilly. Reilly supports abortion rights, statewide marijuana legalization and Medicaid expansion. Allen is favored due to the district’s partisan makeup.

PRIMARY RESULTS

Reilly won the Democratic primary by a double-digit margin and will face Allen who didn’t have a primary opponent.
