THE DISTRICT

The 75th Assembly District encompasses Polk County and the southern portion of Burnett County in a largely rural area, and it shares its western border with Minnesota. It is a safe Republican seat.

THE NUTSHELL

Rep. Gae Magnafici, R-Dresser, announced in March that she would be retiring. Duke Tucker of Grantsburg, a first-time Assembly candidate endorsed by Magnafici, faces Democrat Jane Kleiss, of St. Croix Falls. Tucker has proposed using the National Guard to secure the state border and enforcing criminalization of undocumented immigrants. Kleiss, who is a parent and has worked as a chef, supports increasing access to childcare, healthcare and housing, protecting natural resources and abortion rights. Tucker is favored to win due to the partisan composition of the district.

PRIMARY RESULTS

Tucker defeated two opponents with about half the vote and faces Kleiss who did not have a primary opponent.
