THE DISTRICT

The 70th Assembly District is a rural district that covers the entirety of Jackson County and stretches southward into parts of Monroe and Juneau counties. It is a likely Republican seat.

THE NUTSHELL

Rep. Nancy VanderMeer, R-Tomah, faces Democrat Remy Gomez, also from Tomah. First elected in 2014, VanderMeer chairs the Assembly Transportation Committee and serves as Republican Caucus Secretary. Gomez serves on the Monroe County Board of Supervisors. He’s running because he believes the district “needs a representative in Madison who will work for everyone.” VanderMeer is favored to win due to the partisan composition of the district.

PRIMARY RESULTS

Both VanderMeer and Gomez advanced without an opponent.
