THE DISTRICT
Assembly District 69 is a largely rural area that lies east of Eau Claire and west of Wausau. The district encompasses the entirety of Clark County alongside parts of Chippewa, Taylor and Marathon counties. It is a safe Republican seat.
THE NUTSHELL
Freshman Rep. Karen Hurd, R-Fall Creek, faces Democrat Roger Halls, a military veteran who sat on the Stanley City Council for six years. He’s running to boost school funding and address the cost of living crisis facing many Wisconsin residents. Hurd is moving into the district after being drawn into the Democratic-leaning 91st Assembly District. She chaired the Speaker’s Task Force on Childhood Obesity during the most recent legislative session. She’s campaigning for reelection on cutting taxes, supporting law enforcement and empowering parents in the educational setting. Hurd is favored to win due to the partisan composition of the district.
PRIMARY RESULTS
Hurd won the Republican primary by a double-digit margin and faces Halls who didn’t have a primary opponent.
