THE DISTRICT

The 66th Assembly District includes southern parts of Racine and borders with Interstate 94 on the west, encompassing Elmwood Park and Sturtevant. It is a likely Democratic seat.

THE NUTSHELL

Assembly Minority Leader Greta Neubauer, D-Racine, faces Republican David DeGroot, who currently serves as Mount Pleasant village president, is campaigning on cutting taxes, empowering parents in schools and supporting small businesses, according to his campaign website. DeGroot, who was re-elected to his current role 18 months ago, faced a bitter challenge in April 2023 over his role in bringing Foxconn to Mount Pleasant. He and allied incumbents emerged victorious in their respective races, but the campaign became a partisan political slugfest. First elected to the Assembly in a January 2018 special election, Neubauer has led the Assembly Democratic caucus for the past two and a half years. Neubauer began her career working as a climate activist. Since taking office, she has continued working on those issues, and is a leading voice among Democrats on abortion rights and preserving democracy. Neubauer is favored due to the partisan composition of the district.

PRIMARY RESULTS

Neubauer and DeGroot both advanced. Neither faced a primary opponent.
