THE DISTRICT

The 54th District includes Oshkosh. The seat leans Democratic.

THE NUTSHELL

Rep. Lori Palmeri, D-Oshkosh, is seeking re-election against Republican veteran Tim Paterson. Palmeri is favored to win given the political composition of the district. Palmeri, who took office in 2023, was the first female mayor of Oshkosh. She has worked on University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh’s budget crisis, protecting diversity initiatives and low enrollment. She also champions women’s reproductive rights and Medicaid expansion. She serves on the Committee on Environment and also Forestry, Parks and Outdoor Recreation, Mental Health and Substance Abuse Prevention. Paterson spent 33 years in the Army National Guard and Army Reserves. He was deployed twice overseas, served as a Blackhawk Pilot and retired as a lieutenant colonel. If elected, he wants to address inflation, the tax burden on the middle class and reduce crime in the area that he attributes to weak policies at the southern border. In addition, he supports educational transparency and providing students with a quality education.

PRIMARY RESULTS

Palmeri and Paterson both advanced. Neither faced a primary opponent.
