THE DISTRICT

This toss-up district in western Wisconsin runs along the Mississippi River, encompassing portions of Grant and Crawford counties.

THE NUTSHELL

Longtime Rep. Travis Tranel, R-Cuba City, faces a challenge from Democrat Scott Walker (not the former governor). Walker is a doctor who runs a medical clinic in the district for the “underserved and uninsured.” Boosting public school funding is among his top campaign priorities. Tranel, who was first elected to the Assembly in 2010, chairs the Assembly Committee on Agriculture. Tranel is a dairy farmer who grew up in the area. The race is one to watch for signs of a Democratic wave.

PRIMARY RESULTS

Tranel and Walker both advanced. Neither faced a primary opponent.
