THE DISTRICT

This likely Republican district is anchored in Green Bay and encompasses most of northeastern Wisconsin.

THE NUTSHELL

U.S. Rep. Mike Gallagher, a Republican, resigned from the seat in April. The district leans Republican and featured a hotly contested Republican primary. Republican Tony Wied, a businessman from De Pere who used to own a series of dinosaur-themed gas stations, has earned the endorsement of former President Donald Trump. He’s campaigning on securing the southern border, curbing government spending and getting government “out of the way to unleash American energy resources.” Democrat Kristin Lyerly, an OB/GYN from De Pere, is campaigning on lowering prescription drug prices and bolstering abortion rights.

PRIMARY RESULTS

Wied, the candidate endorsed by Donald Trump, won a three-way primary against two candidates with legislative experience. He faces Lyerly who did not have a primary opponent.
