THE DISTRICT

This safe Republican district encompasses Waukesha, Jefferson and Washington counties. It also includes portions of Dodge County.

THE NUTSHELL

Incumbent U.S. Rep. Scott Fitzgerald, R-Juneau, is seeking a third term in the U.S. House. Fitzgerald served in the state Senate for 16 years before being elected to Congress, including eight as majority leader. Fitzgerald was among the more than 100 GOP members of the U.S. House to object to counting Arizona’s and Pennsylvania’s electoral votes in the 2020 presidential election – one of his first acts in office. He serves on the House Judiciary Committee. Fitzgerald faces a challenge from Democrat Ben Steinhoff, a paramedic. He’s campaigning on building a health care system that “covers every American,” bolstering abortion rights and legalizing marijuana. Fitzgerald is heavily favored to win re-election due to the partisan composition of the district.

PRIMARY RESULTS

Fitzgerald and Steinhoff both advanced. Neither faced a primary opponent.
