THE DISTRICT

This southern Wisconsin district comprises parts of Rock County, Walworth County and Jefferson County. It includes the cities of Whitewater, Edgerton and Milton, part of the city of Janesville and the University of Wisconsin–Whitewater campus. It is a likely Democratic seat.

THE NUTSHELL

Rep. Scott Johnson of Jefferson was originally drawn into the heavily Republican 97th District with Rep. Cindi Duchow, R-Town of Delafield, but decided to move to the 43rd. Johnson is a farmer and former school bus driver who was first elected in 2022 to the 33rd District and says he ran for office after seeing how “Madison puts politics ahead of supporting farming and family values.” He faces Democrat Brienne Brown of Whitewater, who has received a long list of endorsements and was elected to the Whitewater Common Council several times. She supports abortion rights, fair pay for teachers and improved access to broadband. Brown is favored to win due to the partisan makeup of the district.

PRIMARY RESULTS

Johnson soundly won a Republican primary and will face Brown who was uncontested.
