THE DISTRICT

This district includes Richland Center, Reedsburg and the Wisconsin Dells. It is a Republican-leaning district.

THE NUTSHELL

Three-term Rep. Tony Kurtz, R-Wonewoc, faces Democrat Julia Henley, a developer from Blue River. She is campaigning on environmental sustainability, boosting public education funding and expanding health care access and abortion rights. Kurtz, who was first elected in 2018, serves on the Legislature’s powerful budget writing committee. He was influential during the last legislative session in passing a bill that boosted state financial aid to local governments, including allowing the city of Milwaukee and Milwaukee County to assess additional sales taxes to raise revenue. The district leans Republican, but the race is one to watch to gauge if a Democratic wave is materializing.

PRIMARY RESULTS

Kurtz and Henley both advanced. Neither faced a primary opponent.
