THE DISTRICT

This safe Democratic seat, anchored in Madison, includes Rock, Green, Lafayette, Iowa, Sauk and Dane counties.

THE NUTSHELL

Incumbent U.S. Rep. Mark Pocan, D-Black Earth, is seeking a seventh term in office in November. A former co-chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, Pocan is a vocal critic of the United States’ massive defense budget. He’s also been critical of the U.S. response to the war in Gaza. Pocan faces Erik Olsen, a Madison native and attorney. Pocan is heavily favored to win re-election due to the partisan makeup of the district.

PRIMARY RESULTS

Olsen won the Republican primary and faces Pocan, who didn’t have a primary opponent.
