Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Mandela Barnes received about 42,000 more votes than Republican gubernatorial candidate Tim Michels.

Both Barnes and Michels lost their statewide races. Barnes lost to Republican incumbent Sen. Ron Johnson, and Michels lost to Democratic Gov. Tony Evers.

Current unofficial results compiled by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel show Barnes has received 1,310,429 votes, compared to Michels’ 1,268,204.

The margin between Barnes’ and Michels’ votes could change slightly as election officials conduct canvasses and complete the certification process, according to the Wisconsin Elections Commission.
