Open records. Open meetings. That’s what we call sunshine, and as reporters — and members of the public — we rely on it.

Laws vary from state to state. Here, the Wisconsin Freedom of Information Council keeps a close eye on statutes, case law and attorney general opinions that affect public access of information from the government. (Disclosure: WCIJ executive director Andy Hall is on WisFOIC’s board of directors.)
