THE DISTRICT
The northwestern district covers parts of Marathon, Waupaca, Shawano and Portage counties, as well as the cities of Mosinee, Marion and Schofield. It includes villages like Big Falls, Birnamwood and Eland. It’s a safe Republican district.
THE NUTSHELL
Rep. Pat Snyder, R-Schofield, announced he is moving to the 85th District despite being drawn into the 87th District under new redistricting maps. Mosinee Mayor Brent Jacobson faces Shawano County Board member William Switalla, a Democrat from Wittenberg. Jacobson, an attorney and small business owner, is focusing on fiscal responsibility in the district. Switalla is the village president of Wittenberg and has served on the Shawano County Board. He calls himself a moderate Democrat. Jacobson is favored to win due to the partisan composition of the district.
PRIMARY RESULTS
Jacobson soundly won the Republican primary and will face Switalla who was uncontested.
