THE DISTRICT

The 85th Assembly District covers Wausau, extending to also include Weston to the east. The district is a toss-up between Democrats and Republicans.

THE NUTSHELL

Incumbent Rep. Patrick Snyder, R-Schofield, faces a challenge from Democrat Yee Leng Xiong in the Nov. 5 election. The district is one to watch as Republicans try to defend their Assembly majority. Xiong served on the DC Everest School Board and in 2016 secured a position on the Marathon County Board of Supervisors where he advocted for mental health services in schools, expanding a 911 dispatch line and enhacing public safety providers. He wants to fund domestic violence and sexual assault service providers and focus on the economy, enviroment and health care. Snyder, who was elected to the Assembly since 2017, has spent time on the Schofield City Council. He has worked to improve broadband expansion, cut taxes, advocate for veterans and police, and alleviate the workforce crisis.

PRIMARY RESULTS

Both Snyder and Xiong advanced without an opponent.
