THE DISTRICT

The Milwaukee area district stretches from Greenfield in the south to West Allis in the north. It is a likely Democratic district.

THE NUTSHELL

After a dozen years in the Assembly, Rep. Daniel Riemer, D-Milwaukee, opted not to run for reelection, creating an opening in a likely Democratic seat in the Milwaukee area. Democrat Karen Kirsch, who ran unopposed in the primary, said her top policy priority is making improvements to Wisconsin’s health care system. She has endorsements from Democratic heavyweights U.S. Rep. Gwen Moore and Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson. On the Republican side, Lee Whiting has filed to run. Whiting previously ran for the Milwaukee Common Council. Kirsch is a heavy favorite given the Democratic tilt of the district.

PRIMARY RESULTS

Both Kirsch and Whiting advanced. Neither had a primary opponent.
