THE DISTRICT

This likely Republican district includes all of Buffalo, Pepin, Pierce and St. Croix counties, and parts of Trempealeau and Dunn counties. It contains cities like Hudson, Arcadia and River Falls, as well as small villages like Ellsworth.

THE NUTSHELL

Incumbent Sen. Rob Stafsholt, R-New Richmond, faces a challenge from Paul Hambleton, a Democrat from Hudson. Stafsholt was first elected to the Senate in 2020 after serving four years in the Assembly. Stafsholt authored a bill passed in February that cuts real estate property taxes and allows more funding to go to local governments. His Wisconsin and Minnesota income tax reciprocity bill was also signed into law by Gov. Tony Evers, as well as three bills he authored aimed at streamlining workforce licensing. Hambleton is a former teacher and public education advocate. He is focused on public education, affordability issues and expanding access to rural health care.

PRIMARY RESULTS

Both Stafsholt and Hambleton advanced without an opponent.
